This week while grocery shopping I noticed the bags of chips and pretzels are smaller and less full. The bags are full of air to appear bigger and fuller. Tonight while out chips were $4.99 a bag…..I give up! My husband is always telling me I need to give them up well maybe today was the day. Tonight with our movie we are having popcorn!
While getting my popcorn out of the cupboard the lid popped off and spilled out…..Now my popcorn is 1/2 full!

Happy New year! Yesterday we were invited to a friend’s home. I usually like to stay home and watch the Twilight Zone on Hulu, but my friend was persistent and we went. We were asked to make a dish to pass I made my taco dip and had all my ingredients but the taco seasoning. So we made our own. It tasted great and I am wondering why I haven’t kept up making my own like years passed. Here is the recipe .
1 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
1 1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
1/2 tsp. paprika
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. onion powder ( I had dried onions so I crushed them in a small dish and which the back of a spoon)
1/4 tsp. chili powder
1/4 tsp. dried oregano
1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper (we had some dried ones from our garden and I crushed them with the back of a spoon)
1/8 tsp. ground ginger
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in small mixing bowl
and mix well.
Store in an airtight container if not using right away. Makes enough seasoning for about 2 lbs. meat

I don’t know why, but every year at this time I start to panic….what are we going to do about Christmas and I think this year it is going to be more stressful with a wedding the week before.
This is a re-post from last year and I have added some different ideas.
1. This is frugal tip I have done for years. Gift bags and the tissue paper I save over the year. I iron the tissue paper and put it in the bag and store until I am ready to use, easier storage and it looks like you went out and bought the bag and the tissue paper.
2. This year many are going green and many stores in the near future are not going to have plastic bags or they will charge you 5 cents for each bag. Why not buy some reusable shopping bags put your gift in it and attach a bow and they will have 2 gifts in one.
3. You can wrap in newspaper or how about a map you can receive free maps at AAA.
4. I don’t have the ambition this year but How about after Christmas pick up Christmas print fabric and make fabric bags. I know for little ones it is about the ripping of paper, but when they are older I think they would be happy with this idea.
4. Baby blankets for baby gifts
5. A scarf perhaps and it can be another two in one gift.
6. Colorful fabric which can be fabric, bandanna’s, or dish towel.
7. We have done this paper the kids decorate. You can use a paper bag cut open, the kids decorate then ready to use.
8. Boxes or tins you have received from years past
8. Wrapping paper is 1/2 off at the end of the season, so if you just can’t part with the tradition of wrapping paper.
9. If you make a gift basket you can leave it unwrapped and present it that way. My dear friend Shelly made this one. Showing it doesn’t have to be a basket to be a gift basket…. anything you can use to present your gift. Thanks Shelly for the idea!
10. I save the bows from Christmas and reuse them. I bag them up and use them all year.
11. The gift tags….a sweet little lady at church collect Christmas cards after the holiday and then cuts the picture out along with an index card using pinking shears. These were in the office for all the busy teachers to use for Christmas. I just love the idea…

I have been crazy busy with my daughter’s upcoming wedding…. This weekend is the shower. I am blessed with great family and friends. Everyone has offered to help and bring something. So I thought I would post some of what I am learning.
- Bridal Bingo – The guest pick what gifts they think Kelsey will receive and fill out their card and cover the answer when she opens that gift.
- How well do you know Kelsey game is just questions we asked Kelsey to answer and the guest with answer the same questions how they think Kelsey will answer….the closest wins!

I don’t know I don’t make this more. It is cheap, easy and my kids love it!
3/4 C. popped popcorn (set aside)
3/4 C brown sugar
3T. light corn syrup
6 T. Butter or margarine
Bring to a boil for 2 minutes and shut the heat off. Then add
1t. baking Soda
1t. Vanilla
1/4 t. Salt
mix liquid with your popcorn.
I like to serve it like this and my husband Randy likes it baked a little to dry it out some.

I have been busy as I am sure you have also. A month ago a friend had told me she had made 80 waffles. I asked her why so many? She makes them ahead and freezes them and her children have them for breakfast. I don’t have a waffle iron but she suggested I borrow her waffle maker and she how it works so I did. What a great idea….I thought this week I made waffles…..lots of waffles.
I used a pizza cutter to separate them and to clean up the edges. I let them dry by flipping them every so often. I put eight in a ziploc bag and got as much air out as I could and the stacked them in the freezer.
I didn’t quite have enough have enough batter for 80 but I got to 60. I am finding my boys even like them for an after school snack.

Need extra money try these things:
I keep a jar on my washer and throw the change I find into it. this week I rolled it and had $29. I asked my bank for coin rollers and was given a stack for the different coins for free.
It has been a strange month and my apologies for not posting. I haven’t felt very frugal since all I seem to be doing is spending money.

Hi Candy!
I made a few of these cute lil buckets and thought I would share with you.
Going to give them out for 4th of July fun gifts.
I bought a galvanized pail at Michaels believe it or not they only cost me a penny yep .o1 so of course I had to come up with a cute fun idea to do with them.
Bought red, white and blue stickers to decorate the pail a little then I bought sparklers for $1.00 maybe $2.00 and divided them up then went to a dollar store and bought red, white, and blue candy things like baby ruth, 3 musketeer, crunch, york peppermint patties a $1.00 for a 8 pack of candy then I of course divided those up too. Found Welch’s berries and strawberries gummi candy for .88 and a red, white and blue magnetic shopping list for the refrigerator for $1.00 added them all to the bucket and have this cute inexpensive gift to give. Some buckets only have the candy in them but it’s still a cute gift for anyone!

I couldn’t resist the picture, but sometimes I feel just like this. Sometimes Randy and I don’t feel frugal with all the money going out….we just stick our heads in the sand and the money just goes out the window. The little $10 and $20 have become the hundreds needed for this and that.
We have declared a NO Spend Week….No quick trips to the store, no dollar menu and NO buying groceries.. We are using what we have in the house. It is Wednesday and so far so good. Randy suggested we need to do this every other week and add to our budget.
I have found that if you start with NO Spend Days and see how long you can hold out before you spend money…If you are serious you may be surprised how long you actually can go. It is a great feeling!
