I have been thinking the last days. Thinking why are we frugal? Randy and I have never made a lot of money, but I think even if we made tons we would still be frugal. Why be frugal?
- Being a good steward- Taking care of what the Lord has blessed you with. I love the elderly and one thing I have noticed is most have had their things for years and those things still look great. Why? Because they lived in a time where they learned the value of things.
“Whoever is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and whoever is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much. If then you have not been faithful with the dishonest wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches?” (Luke 16:10-11)
Hebrews 13:5 says, “Keep your lives free from the love of money and learn to be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you.’”
Money is mentioned in the Bible quite a bit. I think the Lord thought it was important!
- Rainy Day fund/Emergency fund- When you have some money put aside an emergency doesn’t seem like such an emergency.
One thing I am learning through our Dave Ramsey and Financial Peace University, people are less likely to use credit cards when they have some cash stashed. No panicking or a “what will we do?” thinking.
“Go to the ant, O sluggard, observe her ways and be wise, which, having no chief, officer or ruler, prepares her food in the summer and gathers her provision in the harvest.” Proverbs 6:6-8
Aesop’s Fable: The Ant and the Grasshopper- Like the ant we need to prepare!

Linda Michelle Barron has a poll Are you an ant or a grasshopper?
I can see I am a little of both. When I am tired from working and kid activities, I may say “Randy, I am running to the drive thru for dollar menu” Now we have been better using our crock pot and like the ant when I prepare before work the stress is gone when I get home.
This morning as I am writing this I ask my oldest son Jacob “why are we frugal?’ and he said “because you said so!” and when I asked Benny my youngest “why we are frugal?” He said “so we can save money and have a better life” I have always said we do not need to be rich I just want to live the best life we can. I am trying to live more like an ant and less like a grasshopper!
God’s Blessings on your day, Candy
