What is a Good Steward?

In a few weeks I am teaching a frugal class at my church for their woman’s group. I have had all kinds of ideas swirling in my head.

Have you ever really thought about what it is to be a good steward? You may ask yourself am I a good steward with what the Lord has given to me? The Bible says that someone who is faithful with a little thing will be faithful with much (Luke 16:9-11). Many of us may think about stewardship meaning our money, but I think it is more. It is the caring and concern for all possessions.

Many of you may know I clean for a living and one thing I have notice is when I clean for senior citizens many have older furniture and possessions but they are cared for, the items look loved. My generation seems to be a throw away generation or “if it gets broken why repair we will buy new” Are we really being faithful and caring for what has been entrusted to us?

Psalm 24:1 reads “the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it,” We are just temporary keepers of all possessions because God owns everything.

When you borrow something it is right and responsible to give the item back in the same or better condition. Everything is the Lords and we don’t care. Frugal doesn’t mean we are cheap or poor it means we are good stewards with what the Lord has entrusted to us by making our resources stretch. This week I really want to talk about making our resources stretch. During the Great depression there was a saying  “Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.” and I think we will start with that learning from those senior citizens.

Have a blessed day, Candy

Most of the furniture in our home is second-hand.

Now, we’ve been able to do enough trading around over the years that our home no longer looks like a garage sale. Visitors can tell what our decorating style is and what makes us happy.

But very few of those pieces were chosen at a retail store. One of the “purchased new” pieces is a love seat that I bought in 1990 – it does show some wear, but only if you look very close!
