When the going gets tough….find traveling pants!

Things have been tight for many of us and our Ohio Libraries are no different with funding cuts. In Wood county some of the libraries are closing their doors for a week  to save money, reducing hours of operations, increasing fines and putting a hold on new purchases. This is where it  gets creative and I am so impressed. Debra Manley of Wood county thought of a sisterhood of traveling pants and asked three of her friends for help and they hope to raise $10,000 or more. When you receive the pants you place whatever you can up to $100 and a note of your first or most memorable moment from the Library in a pants pocket.

In this down economic time the library is where many of us flock. Now that I have been doing some frugal classes I am seeing all the many activities for adults and children.

When I read this story in the Toledo Blade this morning, I thought; Wow, we can figure things out and help each other and  just pull together.

Have a blessed day, Candy

Beware of family cell plans!

There are many things to beware of with family plans. Some we have had to deal with are:

  • Teenagers
  • Finding the right plan so you won’t go over.
  • unlimited texting

This is something I had never thought of I read a post from I’ve Already Paid for This Twice and had to share. Verizon Family Plan Members Be Aware. This post gave me some food for thought and I am sorry for the loss of her dad.

For my family I am the primary cell phone number but about a year ago I also had Randy an account primary I am going to find out if something were to happen to me if he would have problems. Something else for a grieving family to deal with!

Our oldest son will be entering his freshmen year this year and he doesn’t have a cell phone yet. He tells me he is the only one in school without one and I have to say I am starting to believe him.  When I see a young person there is always a cell phone.

Have a great day and God’s Blessings, Candy

Who’s on first?

Good Morning! I have been so busy this week I have let my duties here slide.

Randy got his first check this week and I have to say it is a great feeling. A feeling that I can breathe and relax. We have hope and are coming up with a plan to reach our debt-free goal. There are many ideas on how to obtain this goal and I have to say it can get confusing. Who’s on First… Who gets paid first?

  • Pay yourself first- I have to say I have never paid myself first and am going to try at least pay myself second.
  • Give the Lord your first fruits- With many of us struggling it is still important to tithe. Our family has been very blessed with work and it is all thanks to my Lord.
  • Emergency Fund- I know if you can’t save an emergency fund is really not a easy task. Some say $1000 and others 6 months worth of living expenses.
  • In the area of credit card pay more on the one with the smallest amount to get it paid off when that debt is eliminated then pay that extra on the next bill and work on a type of snowball effect.

I want to work on these points and see what you are all doing and start a plan!

Have a wonderful day, Candy
