Frugal Parties

With class parties for Valentines Day and Birthday parties, I thought we could talk about some ideas.

  • Make your own invitations or buy them at the dollar store. Cheap and easy.
  • make your own cake or cupcakes-  Store bought are very costly, they look great but homemade says love!  My dear friend makes cookies and puts one scoop of ice cream in between, She has cake and ice cream taken care of, she so smart!
  • Have your parties early evening after dinner then you just have snacks and save money. If you have to have a meal, why not make it a potluck. Everyone brings something and share in the expense.
  • My mom would want me to say “Make enough food” She doesn’t want anyone to go hungry and if you make to much you’ll have leftovers.
  • My Grandma ingrained in us what you bring to a party stays and you are only to take your dish. I usually take a dish I’m not worried if I lose it and somehow it always ends up back to home!
  • For school  parties I was always a room mom and we had healthy snacks plus the candy and cookies. The kids love it and so did the teacher.
  • When our children were younger they loved goody bags. We used lunch bags they decorated and bought goodies at the Dollar store.
  • Activities- I find games, color pages and stories online for holiday parties and the library as a variety of books with activities.
  • We fill empty 2 liters or milk jugs with water and freeze for ice. What is great about these ice packs is on hot days they are water for us also.
  • Take a lot of pictures- Now that I have a camera I love to take pictures and use them later as gifts for my friends and family. I buy a neat frame for it. I took a picture of my friend and her family, gave it to her for Christmas and she cried and said she hasn’t had a family picture in years. Frugal but yet priceless!
  • Thank you notes- when my children were young and couldn’t write they would draw a picture of the gift and I would write a little something on it. When my mother-in-law passed away, tucked in with the pictures from the event was the invitation and thank you note…..yes they do matter and it shows, you are grateful.
  • One thing I wanted to add that isn’t frugal but I have tried to change over the years is enjoy the family and friends you have over, once everyone is fed, take in and enjoy!

Do you have any frugal party tips?
